After your initial hardware setup, you may need to link or unlink an iPad with your Green Bits account. Common reasons for this are:
- Adding another register to your store to serve customers more efficiently or as part of an expansion
- Upgrading from older iPads to newer models
- Replacing an iPad due to malfunction, damage, or theft
Whatever the reason, linking and unlinking an iPad is quick and easy. Read on to learn how.
Important: do not delete the Green Bits app or restore your iPad to factory settings without first following the unlinking instructions below! If you have already done so, please contact Green Bits support for assistance.
Unlinking an iPad
Unlinking an iPad requires first ending any open drawer associated with the device. See our article on starting and ending a drawer for step-by-step instructions.
Note: starting and ending a drawer can only be done from the Green Bits Register app on the iPad. If you're unable to access the app or the iPad for any reason, contact Green Bits support for assistance.
If you've already confirmed the iPad has no open drawer, skip to the unlinking step below.
Determine if an iPad has an open drawer:
Log in to Back Office and go to Reports > Shifts. Shifts are listed in chronological order based on the date and time they were opened, though you can also filter to see only open shifts, shifts from a specific register, and shifts opened by a specific employee:
(1) Select Open from the drop-down menu
(2) Type an employee name or portion of their name
(3) Type a register name or portion of the register name
Click the gear icon near the upper right to access your store settings, then select Devices from the left-side menu. All current and past device names (1) will be listed along with a unique device ID (2) for active/linked devices. The device name can also be edited here by clicking the pencil icon (3) at the far right:
The same device ID is also shown in the Green Bits iPad app. Tap the three horizontal lines at the top left, then Settings.
Scroll down and tap the toggle switch for Show Advanced Settings. Match the Device Identifier with the one shown in Back Office.
Tap the three horizontal lines at the top left, then Settings.
Tap Unlink Device and confirm when prompted.
That's it! The app will return to the inital sign-in screen. It is now safe to delete the Green Bits app, or you may now enter your Back Office login information and re-link this iPad with another location.
If you are reducing your total number of devices and do not plan to replace this iPad with another, contact Green Bits support to have the device license removed from your account so that you will not be further billed for this device.
Replacing an existing device
As in the Linking a new iPad section above, make sure the device you intend to replace has no open drawer, and that you or another person present at your location have the necessary permissions to Manage Devices. If you are unable to close an open drawer for any reason, contact Green Bits support for assistance.
Install the Green Bits Register app on your new iPad. When installation is complete, open the app and sign in using the same email or username and password that you use to log in to Back Office.
Once signed in, tap Replace Existing Device (there is no need to unlink the device first) and tap the name of the device you want to replace, then tap Link Device:
