Setting Up Tiered Pricing

Tiered (or volume) pricing allows your store to price groups of products according to their weight. This is a great way to create a single pricing structure for your store and encourage customers to buy larger quantities.

In order to use the Standard Pricing Tier, you must be on register version 1.66 or later.  You can check your Device versions on your Devices Page

Enable Tiered Pricing

To enable tiered pricing, simply visit the Store Options section in the Green Bits Back Office and choose the Tiered Pricing Discounts that matches your store's pricing strategy.

Summary of Tiered Pricing Discounts

Here’s an overview of the different tiered pricing strategies you can enable for your store.

  • Standard Tiered Pricing
    • All products of the same shelf will combine weights to offer tiered pricing discounts.
  • Identical-Product Tiered Pricing
    • Only identical products of the same shelf will combine weights to offer tiered pricing discounts.
  • Combined Tiered Pricing
    • Products across all shelves will combine weights to offer tiered pricing discounts.
Tiered Pricing Examples

Here is an example that illustrates how the different tiered pricing plans work:

 Assume this store has the following pricing tiers defined:

Tier 1g 2g 3.5g 7g 14g 28g
Top Shelf $20
$35 $55 $100 $170 $250
Mid Shelf $15 $25 $45 $80 $140 $230
Bottom Shelf $10 $15 $25 $40 $70 $130

Standard Pricing

All products of the same shelf will combine weights to offer tiered pricing discounts.

With Standard Pricing, a customer who purchases 2g of Blue Dream (Bottom Shelf), 3.5g of Sour Diesel (Mid Shelf), 1g of Chemdawg (Top Shelf) and 1g Trainwreck (Top Shelf) would pay the following:

          Blue Dream = 2g = $15

          Sour Diesel = 3.5g = $45

          Chemdawg = 1g  x ($35 / 2) = $17.50

          Trainwreck = 1g  x ($35 / 2) = $17.50

          -------------

          Total = $15 + $45 + $17.50 + $17.50 = $95

Notice that only products on the same shelf combine weights to get pricing discounts

Identical-Product Tiered Pricing

Only identical products of the same shelf will combine weights to offer tiered pricing discounts.

With Identical-Product Tiered Pricing, a customer who purchases 2g of Blue Dream (Bottom Shelf), 3.5g of Sour Diesel (Mid Shelf), 1g of Chemdawg (Top Shelf) and 1g Trainwreck (Top Shelf) would pay the following:

           Blue Dream = 2g = $15

          Sour Diesel = 3.5g = $45

          Chemdawg = 1g = $20

          Trainwreck = 1g = $20

          -------------

          Total = $15 + $45 + $20 + $20 = $100

Notice that only identical products on the same shelf combine weights to provide pricing discounts

Combined Pricing

Products across all shelves will combine weights to offer tiered pricing discounts.

With Combined Pricing, a customer who purchases 2g of Blue Dream (Bottom Shelf), 3.5g of Sour Diesel (Mid Shelf), 1g of Chemdawg (Top Shelf) and 1g Trainwreck (Top Shelf) would pay the following:

Because the customer purchased 7.5g of product total, they will pay according to the 7g pricing tier.

          Blue Dream = 2g  x ($40 / 7) = $11.42

          Sour Diesel = 3.5g x ($80 / 7) = $40

          Chemdawg = 1g  x ($100 / 7) = $14.29

          Trainwreck = 1g  x ($100 / 7) = $14.29

          ---------------

          Total = $11.42 + $40 + $14.29 + $14.29 = $80

Notice that all products across all shelves combine weights to provide pricing discounts.

Add your Pricing Tiers

To Add a Pricing Tier:

  1. Go to Inventory > Pricing Tiers
  2. Click the button Add Pricing Tier
  3. Name your Pricing Tier, and optionally add Weigh Heavy Pricing (This configures how much weight over is still considered the exact tier value.)
  4. Set your pricing for each tier.
  5. Click Save.

Once enabled, you will now have two options when setting the Pricing Strategy (sell price) of your Products on each Product Page:

  • Simple -  Define a Base Price and the Price with Inclusive Taxes (Display Price) for this product
  • Tiered - Choose which Tiered Pricing Model you want for this product.

Calculating Taxes with Tiered Pricing

Pricing Tiers take into account how you have configured your Taxes.

  • Inclusive (The tax  is included in the rate)
    • The total prices of each Tiered Weight are set to include the tax by default for the display price on your register and your menus.
  • Exclusive  (The tax is not included in the rate)
    • The total prices of each Tiered Weight are set to exclude the tax by default for the display price on your register and your menus.
