Before we begin, we'll need to set up a scanner in HID mode, also known as keyboard mode. In most cases, we'll use the same Socket Mobile Bluetooth barcode scanner used for ringing up items at the point of sale, though any scanner that supports HID/keyboard mode will work for this process.

HID mode is the default setting for the Socket Mobile scanner. When we set up the scanner at your point of sale, we use iOS mode, which allows for easy operation with the Green Bits iPad app, though iOS mode is not ideal for inventory audit purposes.

To reset your scanner to HID mode, here's an Overview:
1. If the device is already paired, forget the device.
2. Turn the scanner off.
3. Turn the scanner back on and scan the special barcode.
4. Now that your scanner is in HID mode. Pair your scanner with the iPad.
5. Go to "Settings" on the iPad.
6. Tap Bluetooth and tap on the Device to connect it.

1. If the device is already paired, forget the device.

Go to your iPad Settings, tap Bluetooth, then tap the "i" in the circle, then "Forget this device".

2. Reset the scanner.

With the scanner turned on, press and hold both scanner buttons simultaneously. Listen for three beeps. This deletes the scanner's paired device memory and turns the scanner off.

3. Turn the scanner on and scan the special barcode.

Turn the scanner back on, then scan this barcode:

4. Now that your scanner is in HID mode. Pair your scanner with the iPad.

Note: the device may initially show up as "Keyboard" - tap to connect, and it should change to a Socket device.

Re-pair your scanner with your iPad, or pair with any other device that you want to use for the audit process.

This can be another type of tablet, a computer, or any other device on which you can create and edit a word processing document.

For now, we will show you how to continue pairing with the iPad, since it's the most common device our customers use.

5. Go to "Settings" on the iPad.

On the Home screen of your iPad you should see the Settings screen. If you don't see it, scroll to the side until you find it.

6. Go to Bluetooth and tap on the Device to connect it.

Go to “Bluetooth”

Tap the device’s name to connect it

Note: the device may initially show up as "Keyboard" - tap to connect, and it should change to a Socket device.

7. Wait for the device’s status to change to connected.

After a moment, the device’s Bluetooth status message should change from “Not Connected” to “Connected”.

You're now ready for the next steps setting up your word document, scanning your inventory and then uploading your file to the Green Bits Inventory tool.
