Follow the steps below to connect a label printer to your network and print compliant package labels and barcode labels from your computer.
Before you begin
- Check your Internet connection.
- Make sure you have all the necessary hardware.
- Make sure you have unit-based inventory items to print labels for. Labels for weight-based items are printed from the Register or from the Weigh Station.
- Make sure you have an available Ethernet connection on your router or network switch.
Checklist of hardware
- Zebra label printer model ZD410, LP 2824, or GX420d (Nevada only)
- Label printer power cord
- Ethernet cable
- Personal computer
Set up your Back Office label printer
- Using the power cord that came with your printer, connect to any available outlet or power strip.
- Load labels:
- For Zebra LP 2824 — See Zebra's LP 2824 Manual, page 13.
- For Zebra ZD410 — See Zebra's ZD410 Manual, page 30.
- For Zebra GX420d — See Zebra's GX420d Manual, page 15.
- Connect an Ethernet cable to the port on the back of your printer.
- Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to an available LAN port on your router, network switch, or Wi-Fi extender. Typically, these ports will be labeled LAN and/or numbered.
Do not connect to any port labeled WAN or Internet. Do not connect the Ethernet cable to the computer that you use for Green Bits Back Office. USB connection is not supported.
- Turn on the printer:
- ZD410 - Power button located on the top of the printer
- LP 2824 - Switch located on the right side of the printer
- GX420d - Switch located on the back of the printer
Install and open the Label Printing App
Printing labels from your computer requires the Google Chrome web browser. If you don’t already have Chrome on your computer, download it here. You must use a desktop or laptop computer.
- In Chrome, navigate to secure.greenbits.com and log in to the Green Bits Back Office.
- Select the Settings gear > Label Printer.
- Select Install Label Printing App (or click here), and then Add To Chrome.
- Once installed, select Launch the App from your Chrome Extensions menu, or Launch Printer Config from the Label Printer page in Back Office.
- A Label Printers pop-up window will display. If your computer and printer are connected to the same network, the printer's IP address will be automatically shown in the Label Printers pop-up window. Otherwise, click here for troubleshooting steps.
- Click Test Print to verify the connection.
If the test print has a barcode with *1234567812345678* below it, then the test print is a success!
Once you've successfully connected your printer to your computer, you're ready to start printing labels.
