California is requiring that all microbusinesses (CA Type 12 License) assign locations (formerly referred to as a Rooms) for all packages that correlate to their licensed activities. All locations will need to be assigned to the correct location “type” for the activity/location of their inventory (for retail sales activity, the location type is ‘retail’).
A location will need to be set for packages when the following actions are taken:
o creating a new package
o creating a lab sample package
o accepting transferred packages
Please complete the following steps to enable “locations” in Metrc :
- Metrc customers must have the “locations” permission enabled on their Metrc User Profile. (Log into Metrc, Click on Admin, and then select Locations from the menu)
NOTE: Whenever new functionality is added, the employee that is designated as the Industry Admin is the only one with the permissions initially enabled. The Industry Admin can then give those permissions to other users in your employee list. You'll need to add package location permissions to any employee whom you wish to be able to change package locations in your facility.
- Create or update locations in Metrc. Your inventory should be in a location = retail. (CA-Bulletin-2021-008 Location Functionality for Microbusinesses)
- If you are enabling the “location” permission for the first time you will be required to generate and sync a new API key. (Generate or update an API key in Metrc)
- Once you have completed the necessary actions in Metrc we recommend that all further actions/updates are done in Greenbits. All packages that are split or returned in GB will automatically designate the room to “Floor” (which is categorized in Metrc as a retail location type) (Split Inventory Overview)
To avoid any discrepancies in inventory movement for your retail inventory, we recommend you make all inventory adjustments for retail sales in Greenbits to ensure that your retail inventory is assigned to the correct location (Floor) in Metrc.
